Inhale, exhale. My heart beat steady, pumping life into my womb, as the surrounding rivers pumped life into the land. My skin- plump and glowing, dappled with sunlight. Inhale, exhale. Inside, amidst the fluttering soft child I carried, I felt the primal need to be bare amongst the trees. The pine needles made a carpet for the soles of my feet. The winds whispered through the branches, carrying the sweetest of scents, grazing my skin. Queen Anne rustled at the edge of the forest, dancing with her age old wisdom. A loon called in the distance, a mixed melody with the Cicadas. Inhale, exhale. Perfectly rounded acorns wearing tiny hats mirrored the shape of my ever growing mid section. The lichen on decaying stumps mirroring my skin as it stretched. The bushes grouped with the ferns were pregnant with Huckleberries, warm to the touch. Inhale, exhale. It became clear to me, the power I carry when I am with child. The life that I bring forth into this world, as I become the bridge between the realm of the stars and our Earth Mother. It has always been clear to me, the power which this Earth holds beneath us, among us, above us. The ways in which we take after each other, take care of each other. It is here that I find God. Not only under Her green canopy, but inside of me. Life has never been more clear to me then when I am in the forest. Inhale, exhale. I implore you to go where the grass grows, where the trees breathe, where the cool water flows, and to feel your power. To feel the Earth surrounding you in love. Every day can be Earth Day if you come back to your roots. Just remember to inhale & exhale. -JL
